Description

TAFE SA's courses for school students are designed for students in Year 10 to Year 12. They provide the opportunity to learn specific industry skills and gain credit towards a nationally recognised qualification, all while students undertake their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

This qualification is designed to provide a pathway into a career within the plumbing industry. It includes a broad range of plumbing related skills and competencies and ensures students are work ready. Employment outcomes are predominantly achieved through an Australian Apprenticeship. This qualification provides a good foundation and pathway to the Certificate III in Plumbing and the Certificate III in Roof Plumbing.

Course Admission Requirements

You must be a school student undertaking SACE or equivalent, and meet the Flexible Industry Program eligibility criteria.

Course Delivery

  • Delivered one day per week over 12 months (up to a maximum of 40 weeks),
  • Full attendance days (from 8:00am to 4:00pm)
  • Dates, times, course units and training plans may vary for each delivery location,
  • Training is a combination of classroom and workshops,
  • At times, some courses may be combined with adults and/or apprentice classes,
  • Students will be required to engage in unsupervised activities including: self-paced study and review, collaborating with peers (face-to-face or online), collecting information, reading and undertaking project work,
  • While not compulsory, it is recommended that schools facilitate arrangements for students to undertake up to 40 hours of work experience over the duration of the training, to support their learning progress. This is not a requirement for the qualification but is highly recommended to provide students with more context and workplace experience,
  • Students undertaking this qualification will be resulted at the end of November, and not within the current week 6, term 4 resulting deadline.

Additional Information

Additional Cost - approx. $100-$200: Students are required to purchase the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Safety Boots (Steel-cap boots), Clear Safety Glasses and Appropriate Workwear - long pants and a cotton high-vis long sleeve shirt. Please note that polyester or nylon clothing is not permitted, as these materials do not meet the safety requirements for welding activities.

    Certificate II in Plumbing Pathways (11410NAT)
    This qualification has a range of units that introduce the learner to basic plumbing skills and knowledge including:

    • working safely as part of a team
    • measuring and calculating
    • using basic industry terminology to communicate effectively
    • reading plans and specifications
    • selecting and using plumbing tools, equipment and materials
    • producing simple technical drawings
    • using basic welding equipment
    • plus using plumbing pipes, fittings and fixtures to simulate plumbing installations.
      To complete the qualification, you are required to complete 16 core units plus 2 elective units.

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
