Basic Skills for the Food Industry

Description

This course will provide participants with basic skills in food preparation and cookery skills to prepare food and menu items. It may also provide a pathway to work in kitchen operations in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops; and institutions such as aged care facilities, hospitals, prisons, and schools.

This course provides skills and knowledge in hygiene, basic cookery and kitchen organisation. It will develop attributes to help you get ahead including hygiene awareness, collaboration skills, communication in a fast-paced environment and the ability to multi-task as well as time skills in time management and organisation.

  • Completion of the Training Account Consent Form - you are required to upload a completed form at the time of enrolment. You can download a copy of the form under the Files & Resources tab below.
  • Participate in safe work practices (SITXWHS001)

    Use hygienic practices for food safety (SITXFSA001)

    Participate in safe food handling practices (SITXFSA002)

    Use food preparation equipment (SITHCCC001)

    Prepare dishes using basic methods of cookery (SITHCCC005)

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
