Engineering Drafting

Description

This subject introduces students to basic engineering drafting concepts and teaches them to read, interpret and produce industry standard construction documentation using a variety of the Autodesk software packages. Students will learn how to.

• Apply knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and symbols to interpret basic civil, structural and mechanical diagrams and drawings
• Prepare basic civil, structural and mechanical drawings and diagrams in accordance with given system requirements and relevant standards
• Use current design software to produce basic civil, structural and mechanical drawings and diagrams
• Demonstrate awareness of copyright, intellectual property (IP) issues and emerging technologies in relation to drawing
• Use file management and version control techniques

  • AutoCAD Basics - Paper Space vs Model Space & External References; Read and Interpret Drawings; Residential Construction and Floor Plans; Roof Layouts and Elevations ; Footing Layouts; Producing Structural Drawings; Contours and Site Drainage; Electrical

    Revit Architectural - Revit Structural; Linking of models; Modelling structural columns and beams; foundations and reinforcement placement; rafters and using working planes; Producing structural layouts and schedules

    Revit Site - Introduction to 3D survey data; Mapping project base points and survey marks; Modelling Revit topographic surfaces; Generating cut and fill schedules; Mechanical CAD Basics; Assembly techniques; Surfacing; Modelling techniques; Document handling File structure; backup; Version control release
  • Laptop and a 2nd screen to enable practice at home/on campus. TAFE SA will provide any compulsory software.
    Minimum requirements:
    • Windows 10 or later
    • Minimum 16 GB RAM
    • Minimum 12th Gen Intel I5 or AMD 6000 Series Ryzen 5
    • Minimum 250 GB hard drive
    Apple Macs and mobile devices are not suitable

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
