Building Services Drafting

Description

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

This course covers the skills and knowledge required for a detail draftsperson producing specialist engineering drawings within a building services context. Students apply knowledge of electrical engineering in a construction context. Students will be able to read, interpret and produce industry standard engineering documentation using Autodesk/Revit software.

You will learn how to:

• Apply knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and symbols to interpret building services diagrams and drawings
• Prepare building services drawings and diagrams in accordance with given system requirements and relevant standards
• Use current design software to produce building services drawings and diagrams
• Apply engineering design principles to building services projects
• Demonstrate awareness of copyright and intellectual property (IP) issues in relation to drawing
• Use file management and version control techniques

This course includes a self-directed study commitment and on-campus classroom delivery each week for 18 weeks.

WHO'S IT FOR?

This course is ideal for learners who would like to develop drafting skills specifically for the building services industry.

This course is aimed at students who meet the following pre-requisites:
- completion of Engineering Drafting (National Code ENGDRFT501) or
- completion of Civil/Structural Basic Drawing (National Code BLDDRFT501)
OR
- have at least 2 years Civil and/or Structure Drafting experience (supported by a resume/CV)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

You will require a Laptop/PC and a 2nd screen to enable practice at home/on campus. TAFE SA will provide any compulsory software.

Minimum requirements:
. Windows 10 or later
. Minimum 16 GB RAM
. Minimum 12th Gen Intel I5 or AMD 6000 Series Ryzen 5
. Minimum 250 GB hard drive
. Apple Macs and mobile devices are not suitable

At the completion of the course you will have an enhanced understanding of the following areas:

. HVAC - Types of HVAC systems; Layout Drawings; Air-conditioning duct layout drawings; Setting out the plant room air handling plants; Connecting ductwork

. Hydraulics and Fire - Types of hydraulics and fire protection systems; Fire layout drawings; Sewer layout drawings; Water layout drawings; Stormwater drainage system layouts

. Power and Lighting - Types of power and lighting systems; Electrical lighting and power layout system drawings; Cable run and riser diagrams; Switchboard layout diagrams
