WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Generative AI Foundations is an introductory short course designed to build essential AI literacy and practical capability for learners across all industries. The course provides a clear, accessible understanding of what generative AI is, how it works, and how it can be used safely, ethically, and productively in modern workplaces. Participants learn core concepts such as prompting, summarisation, content generation, critical evaluation of AI outputs, and responsible use principles including privacy, bias, intellectual property, and organisational policy requirements.

The course focuses on hands-on, real-world application, enabling learners to practise using generative AI tools to improve efficiency, enhance communication, support problem solving, and streamline routine tasks. Through guided activities and practical scenarios, participants develop confidence in integrating AI into their daily workflows while understanding its limitations, risks, and appropriate use cases.

By the end of the course, learners will have the foundational knowledge and skills required to engage with AI enabled technologies, contribute to digitally capable workplaces, and pursue further study or upskilling in business, IT, cyber security, creative industries, and other emerging fields.

WHO'S IT FOR?

This course is for anyone who needs to understand, use, and apply generative AI safely and effectively - regardless of industry, background or prior experience.

This course is intentionally designed for beginners, including those who:
- have never used generative AI
- feel unsure or overwhelmed by AI tools
- want structured guidance rather than self-taught experimentation

Pre-requisites
- Basic Digital Literacy (Recommended)
- English Literacy at a Functional Level
- No Prior AI knowledge required

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

- Delivered online, self-paced
- You have up to 6 months to complete the course once registered

This course prepares you for the following certification exam: CSS_Generative AI Foundations. This exams credentials are endorsed by Mindstone, an AI training platform that boosts productivity by 60% by training staff to use AI effectively in their roles and is one of the biggest practical AI communities in the world.

The certification exam may be booked through TAFE SA at no additional cost (first attempt only). The exams are conducted only once at the end of every term. The exam may also be booked through Pearson Vue Test Centre located in Adelaide, however you will need to pay for the cost of the certification exam yourself.
