Whether you're dreaming of your first handmade skirt or plotting your own debut into industry, this course sets you up with the skills (and confidence) to make it happen. Who’s it for? Whether you’re a stitch-savvy beginner or a seasoned sewing enthusiast looking to sharpen your skills, this course is for you! While it helps to know your way around a domestic sewing machine and have a bit of hand-stitching know-how, everyone’s welcome we’re all here to learn, create, and have fun! Outcomes of course? By the end of the course, you won’t just talk fashion you’ll make it! You’ll leave with the confidence and skills to bring your own garment ideas to life, from first sketch to final stitch. Here’s what you’ll master along the way: • Fabric cutting and sewing techniques that turn flat fabric into fabulous fashion • A portfolio of industry current skills and techniques: seam styles in different fabrics, hems, sewing curves, gathering, easing, tucking, top stitching. • Confidence working on industrial sewing machines and overlockers (yes, the real deal!) • How to care for and maintain industrial sewing machines and how to identify issues and get your machine running smoothly • Inside knowledge on fabrics and fibres, making you a fabric expert • How to plan and work to a professional industry standard. You will walk away with skills that can lead you to industry employment, further study, or being a savvy home-sewer. The follow-on skill set from this is the Sample Machining Skill Set, where you will learn how to insert 2 types of zips, and make basic garment styles.
