Description

Get started in fashion design and production with this foundation course. Develop the basic skills you need to make individual garments or to produce a small clothing range. Learn about quality standards, design principles and fashion technical drawing. Modify patterns, learn about fibres and fabrics, use a sewing machine, and produce some simple items of clothing. If you’re self-employed or want to begin producing your range for distribution online or at the markets, this is the ideal course for you. Get your start in fashion with this qualification or step up to further study as you develop your fashion career.

Online

Online – learn at your own pace, in your own space. Lecturer support will be provided via email and interaction with fellow students may be available via forums and chat groups. Online courses require access to a computer with an internet connection.

Blended

Blended – learn in a mixture of classroom and online environments. On campus learning will be scheduled but online learning can provide more flexibility. Lecturer support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

Virtual Classroom – online classes are delivered by Collaborate. Collaborate is a web-based online classroom collaboration tool that acts as a real-time virtual classroom.

Workplace – if you are currently employed in the industry but do not have a formal qualification TAFE SA can recognise the skills you already have. The duration of the course will be determined by your individual study plan.

Classes are held 3 days week from 9.00-3.30pm.

Industry Conditions and Skills
Practical skills to be able to create simple pieces suitable for a market or start up ventures will be taught

    Employment Outcomes

    This qualification aims to give students an introductory overview of fashion design and is particularly suitable for those who are self-employed undertaking low volume production of items for local distribution outlets, such as markets.

    Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

    Qualifications & Skills Covered

    Certificate III in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles (MST31022)
    This qualification provides skills in OH&S, quality standards, TCF computing technology, designing, drawing and interpreting sketches, modifying patterns, fibres and fabrics, using a sewing machine, sewing components, designing and producing a simple garment. To complete the qualification, you are required to complete all 6 core units and 12 elective units.

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
