Description

TAFE SA's courses for school students are designed for students in Year 11 to Year 12. They provide the opportunity to learn specific industry skills and gain credit towards a nationally recognised qualification, all while students undertake their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

Training in our hospitality courses will provide you with the knowledge and skills to work within the hospitality industry, locally, nationally and internationally. You will gain practical experience in preparation of food and beverage service as well as mastering the art of coffee service. All our courses are taught by highly qualified industry professionals supported by real hospitality experiences in our campus cafes or restaurants.

Course Admission Requirements

You must be a school student undertaking SACE or equivalent, and meet the Flexible Industry Program eligibility criteria.

Course Delivery

  • Delivered one day per week over three terms,
  • Dates, times, course units and training plans may vary for each delivery location,
  • Self-directed study hours (non-contact, including self-paced learning activities, research, completing student tasks) approx.
    4 hours per week.
  • This qualification requires the student to complete a minimum of 12 service periods in a simulated industry environment or industry workplace.
    A logbook is required to be completed for evidence.
    Check with your campus how these 12 service periods will be achieved,
  • It is recommended that students do not have a full study band at school if they wish to also study this qualification at TAFE SA,
  • At times, some courses may be combined with adults and/or apprentice classes.

Additional Information

There is a $10.00 incidental fee for this course which covers the provision of a TAFE SA name-badge. It is also suggested that students purchase a long sleeve business shirt (check with local campus if this is black or white), black work pants and black shoes (approximate cost $50). Students may also be required to purchase a Waiters Friend tool (approx. $13).

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
