Description

TAFE SA's courses for school students are designed for students in Year 11 to Year 12. They provide the opportunity to learn specific industry skills and gain credit towards a nationally recognised qualification, all while students undertake their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

This course opens the door to careers in the high-tech electrotechnology industry. The growing industry requires qualified tradespersons in the areas of domestic and commercial electrical installations, electrical power generation and distribution, telecommunications and security systems, air-conditioning and refrigeration, instrumentation and process control, renewable and sustainable energy, and electric vehicles and rail transport. You will learn the fundamental electrical knowledge and skills to be work ready. It also provides a pathway to those who are wanting to gain an apprenticeship as an Electrician. If an apprenticeship is obtained many of the units are transferable to Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820). The Electrotechnology industry highly regard this course as a benchmark for applying for apprenticeships with major South Australian electrical companies.

Course Admission Requirements

You must be a school student undertaking SACE or equivalent, and meet the Flexible Industry Program eligibility criteria.

Course Delivery

Delivered one day per week over 12 months,
Block delivery available at some sites,
Dates, times, course units and training plans may vary for each delivery location,
Training is a combination of classroom, online and simulated work environments,
It is recommended that students do not have a full study band at school if they wish to also study this qualification at TAFE SA,
At times, some courses may be combined with adults and/or apprentice classes,
Applications to study at a Technical College may require an alternative application process.

Additional Information

Students/Schools must purchase course textbooks at the cost of approx $170 per student. Students must have the following Personal Protective Equipment (that students must organise themselves approx $150-$200) including: long sleeve hi-vis shirt, long pants, steel capped boots, clear safety glasses.

Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) (UEE22020)
Students complete 12 units covering the knowledge and skills typical of those performed by apprentices in the early stages of training. 9 units are transferable into the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (apprentice) course reflecting most of the training of a first year apprentice. The content of this course includes theoretical understandings and practical tasks. Theoretical knowledge includes electrical principles, cable and component identification and Practical tasks such as house wiring, light fabrication and circuit construction. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 8 core units and elective units totalling 140 points.

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
