Description

Download and read the Frequently Asked Questions document from the ‘Additional Files and Resources’ section below (click the arrow to the right to view the files) and submit your online application (expression of interest only, no fees required at this stage) for the course you wish as listed below.

This course meets the minimum prerequisite training requirements set by NAATI for the Certified Provisional Interpreter (Auslan) test and is designed to prepare candidates for this test by providing guidance in interpreting techniques; it does not aim to produce fully trained interpreters. This course is for candidates who are already in (or are well placed to be in) interpreting or language-related roles within a workplace or community.

Students will complete 4 units and 7 assessments over 12 weeks which will cover:
- Ethics in interpreting and translating
- Preparation for an interpreting assignment
- Building glossaries
- Interpreting techniques

It is highly recommended that students allocate additional time during the week for private study.

The course is delivered in English and students are provided with the opportunity to receive Auslan-specific feedback through a sample recording (not for assessment purposes).

South Australian State Government funding subsidies apply for this course. Eligibility criteria apply. The full course cost applies for students who are not eligible for State Government funding subsidies. Course payment will be arranged at a later date, after your application has been received.

NOTE: Applicants will be notified of their application and TAFE SA reserves the right to cancel the course if there are not enough students. Please refer to the NAATI website for upcoming test dates (www.naati.com.au)

Applicants must meet English and Auslan proficiency requirements before enrolment by undertaking an online pre-course language activity to ensure they have the required level of English and Auslan to complete the course and meet NAATI English requirements.

Applicants are also required to have fundamental computer skills in order to complete and upload assessments.
