Civil Drafting

Description

This subject introduces students to civil engineering design and drafting concepts. Students learn how to read, interpret and produce industry standard civil documentation using a variety of the Autodesk software packages. The subject also introduces students to civil engineering design principles

• Apply knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and symbols to interpret civil diagrams and drawings
• Prepare basic civil drawings and diagrams in accordance with given system requirements and relevant standards
• Use current design software to produce civil drawings and diagrams
• Apply engineering design principles to civil engineering
• Demonstrate awareness of copyright, intellectual property (IP) issues and emerging technologies in relation to drawing
• Use file management and version control techniques

This course includes an online learning commitment (approx. 3hrs per week) with a Lecturer facilitated collaborate sessions available to students each Wednesday morning 9:30am – 12:00pm. The on-campus classroom commitment is each Wednesday evening 5pm – 8pm at TAFE SA Regency Campus over 18 weeks.

  • Entry Requirement: Student must have completed either the unit Engineering Drafting (TAFE Code: EACPY, NAT Code: ENGDRFT501) or Civil/Structural Basic Drawing (TAFE Code: ABGT, NAT Code: BLDDRFT501) with TAFE SA (supported by Academic Transcript) or have at least 2 years Civil and/or Structure Drafting experience (supported by Resume/CV).

    Students must contact Principal Lecturer Mykola.Kyrylenko@tafesa.edu.au prior to enrolling to discuss course requirements relating to Civil/Structural Drafting experience suitability.
  • Topics include - Survey drafting techniques; Basic CAD drafting techniques; Civil 3D User Interface; Road survey and set-out; Contours plans; Topographic maps; Long sections and vertical alignment; Detailed horizontal alignment; Cut & Fill Estimation; Road intersections design; Parcel design and urban subdivisions; Rural Roads Designs; Urban Roads Designs.
  • Laptop and a 2nd screen to enable practice at home/on campus. TAFE SA will provide any compulsory software.
    Minimum requirements:
    • Windows 10 or later
    • Minimum 16 GB RAM
    • Minimum 12th Gen Intel I5 or AMD 6000 Series Ryzen 5
    • Minimum 250 GB hard drive
    Apple Macs and mobile devices are not suitable

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
