This subject introduces students to hardware/software fundamentals of wired/wireless local area network. It allows students to develop skills in designing, setting up and troubleshooting such networks. Students are also introduced to network security. The subject also presents fundamentals of Internet of Things devices and systems, as well as Programmable Logic devices. Learning outcomes include; • Describe the principles involved in the design and implementation of computer networks • Design, setup and troubleshoot a wired/wireless local area network • Assess the security of a range of devices on a computer network • Apply basic principles of Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing to analyse a simple system • Produce documentation in commonly used engineering format This course includes a self-directed study commitment with on-campus classroom delivery each Tuesday evening 6.30pm – 9.30pm at TAFE SA Regency Campus over 18 weeks.
