WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

This course introduces students to hardware/software fundamentals of wired/wireless local area network. It allows students to develop skills in designing, setting up and troubleshooting such networks. Students are also introduced to network security. The subject also presents fundamentals of Internet of Things devices and systems, as well as Programmable Logic devices.

This course includes a self-directed study commitment with on-campus classroom delivery each week over 18 weeks.

WHO'S IT FOR?

This introductory course is designed for those seeking a foundation in the hardware and software fundamentals of wired and wireless local area networks. Students develop practical skills in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems, while also gaining an introduction to essential network security concepts.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

You will require a laptop/PC with a 2nd screen to enable practice at home/on campus. TAFE SA will provide any compulsory software.

Minimum requirements:
- Windows 10 or later
- Minimum 16 GB RAM
- Minimum 12th Gen Intel 15 or AMD 6000 Series Ryzen 5
- Minimum 260BG hard drive
- Apple Macs and mobile devices are not suitable

OUTCOMES OF COURSE

At the completion of this course you will have an enhanced understanding of the following areas:

- The principles involved in the design and implementation of computer networks
- Design, setup and troubleshooting a wired/wireless local area network
- Assessing the security of a range of devices on a computer network
- Applying basic principles of Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing to analyse a simple system
- Producing documentation in commonly used engineering format
