WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Build the skills and confidence to support clients with day-to-day management of their finances.

This practical skill set is designed to equip community services workers with the knowledge and tools to deliver financial literacy education, teach money management strategies, and explain basic credit concepts. Participants will gain an understanding of financial capability practices that can be applied when supporting individuals, families and communities experiencing financial challenges.

The course is closely aligned with the nationally recognised role of Financial Capability Worker and has been developed in consultation with key industry stakeholders in the community services sector.

• Community support workers
• Youth workers and family support workers
• Current or recent graduates of Community Services programs
• Government and community sector employees
• Individuals looking to work as Financial Capability Workers
• Existing students seeking to enhance their employability in the community services sector

This course is particularly suited to those working, or intending to work in community services, health, aged care, youth work, and family intervention settings.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Entry requirements
To undertake this skill set, participants should:
- Hold a Certificate III qualification or higher in Community Services, Health or a related field OR
- Have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process

Skill/equipment requirements:
To undertake this skill set, participants should:
- Have basic computing IT skills
- Access to Office 365
- Have a computer monitor to view spreadsheets in our online learner management system. This course is not suitable to complete on an iPad or smart phone.

Prior to the start date, you will receive correspondence from your lecturer regarding pre-readings. These will be released 2 weeks prior to your first workshop date and it is expected to be completed before you commence.

• Build pathways into further study and career opportunities within community services and financial counselling

This skill set can complement existing Community Services qualifications and may support progression towards further study, including community services qualifications and the Diploma of Financial Counselling.

  • Completion of the Participant Agreement Form - you are required to upload a completed and signed form at the time of registration. You can download a copy of the form under the Files & Resources tab below.
  • Work with clients to identify financial literacy education needs (CHCEDU005)

    Improve clients' fundamental financial literacy skills (CHCEDU006)

    Provide group education on consumer credit and debt (CHCEDU007)

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.

Class Times
Classes are scheduled on Wednesday 9:30am-3:30pm and are run virtually (all 4 workshops are compulsory to attend).

Some online learning will also need to be completed prior to the first workshop.

Cost Information
This delivery is offered under South Australian Government funding subsidies. You might be eligible for subsidised training if you live or work in South Australia, and are: an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a Permanent Resident or an eligible visa holder and are 16 years of age or over and not enrolled at school. For those ineligible for State Government subsidy, the full course cost of $1480 will apply.
