WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? This course introduces students to civil engineering design and drafting concepts. You will learn how to read, interpret and produce industry standard civil documentation using a variety of the Autodesk software packages. The course also introduces you to civil engineering design principles. For each topic, face-to-face or online lectures will be combined with relevant readings to present and explore the core concepts, techniques and applications of civil drafting. Students are required to apply the theory to producing civil drawings and solving civil engineering problems by completing practical exercises. Students are encouraged to attempt all practical exercises as part of the independent study. This course includes a self-directed study commitment and on-campus classroom delivery each week over a duration of 18 weeks. Topics covered: - Survey drafting techniques - Basic CAD drafting techniques - Civil 3D User Interface - Road survey and set-out - Contours plans - Topographic maps - Long sections and vertical alignment - Detailed horizontal alignment - Cut & Fill Estimation - Road intersections design - Parcel design and urban subdivisions - Rural Roads Designs - Urban Roads Designs WHO'S IT FOR? This course is aimed at students who meet the pre-requisites below. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW You will require a Laptop/PC and a 2nd screen to enable practice at home/on campus. TAFE SA will provide any compulsory software.
