Description

Flooring technicians use their skills and technical knowledge to install floors and flooring materials, including timber, vinyl, resin, and concrete, in residential and commercial premises. Working primarily in the construction industry, flooring technicians have a major role to play in the look, feel, usability, and sustainability of a building. They are able to use their own judgement and discretion to adapt and transfer their skills and knowledge to each individual project. There is ample opportunity to run your own business and be self-employed. You must have a Contract of Training with an employer to enrol in this course.

    This qualification reflects vocational outcomes for those performing flooring job roles including safe handling of materials in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures and within known time constraints.

    Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

    Qualifications & Skills Covered

    Certificate III in Flooring Technology (MSF30822)
    You will learn how to prepare sub-floors and flooring surfaces (including polished concrete), install carpet, timber and resilient flooring, apply finishes to floors, repair existing flooring and provide advice to customers. You will also learn about work health and safety, communications, calculations and working with others. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 12 core units and 12 elective units.

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
