Description

Gain the knowledge to work in a range of education settings, including primary or high schools, and community education settings. You will develop a range of skills to support teachers and help students to develop literacy, numeracy and computer skills, or work with students with disabilities.

Attendance Requirements (subject to change)
Delivery is through online virtual classrooms. You will need a computer with a camera and reliable internet connection.

Industry Conditions and Skills
You will be working closely with school students and education professionals to provide learning and development support in a school environment.

Additional Uniforms, Equipment and Costs
If you do not hold the following, a current Working with Children Check and Child Safe Environments certificate, you will be required to complete these and will be advised of the associated costs prior to registration. In addtion you will be required to purchase the recommended textbook (approx $100).

Vocational Placements

  • You will be required to complete vocational placement in a primary or secondary classroom environment in at least one school.
  • To achieve this qualification, you must have completed a total of least 100 hours of work in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school in Australia
  • If you are not currently working in a school, you will be allocated a vocational placement organised by TAFE SA's Placement team.
    To make sure that you are able to be placed, you will need to provide the required clearances, documentation and certificates by the date advised.

Mandatory Requirements
You will require a current Working with Children check, a Safe Environments for Children and Young People - Through Their Eyes certificate and a Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care (RAN-EC) certificate to start your vocational placement. If you do not have these checks and certificates you will not be able to commence your vocational placement. Schools and educational services may have their own policies on vaccination. You may need to provide evidence of vaccination.

    Certificate III in School Based Education Support (CHC30221)
    This qualification covers working with diverse people, legislative, policy and industrial requirements, education programs, contribute to student education, organisation and management of classrooms, supporting development and student safety. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 10 core units and 5 elective units.

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
