Description

Gain the practical skills, knowledge and hands-on experience you need to launch your career in the plumbing and services sector and prepare for a plumbing apprenticeship. You’ll learn safe work practices, how to correctly select and use plumbing tools, and develop foundational knowledge of pipes, fittings and fixtures. The course also includes an introduction to oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, along with basic sheet metal practices.
This qualification provides a strong pathway into a range of specialist streams, allowing you to progress into apprenticeships in general plumbing, gas fitting, roof plumbing, mechanical services (air-conditioning and refrigeration pipework), drainage, and fire protection.

Young people (17-24) and women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Attendance Requirements (subject to change)

  • This course opens on 2nd March for a Semester 2 start.
  • Full time with classes 3 to 5 days a week.

Industry Conditions and Skills
You will need basic literacy and numeracy skills and a basic level of work-related concepts, such as measurements, volumes, levels, ratios to understand the fundamentals of plan reading and interpretation. Practical hands-on aptitude is an advantage but not essential.

Additional Uniforms, Equipment and Costs
$100-$200: You will need to buy and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as:

  • safety boots
  • safety glasses
  • appropriate workwear (eg long pants and long sleeve hi vis shirt)

  • Employment Outcomes

    This course will prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge for entry into an apprenticeship (Certificate III in Plumbing) in one of the various sectors of the plumbing industry.

    Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

    Qualifications & Skills Covered

    Certificate II in Plumbing Pathways (11410NAT)
    This qualification has a range of units that introduce the learner to basic plumbing skills and knowledge including:

    • working safely as part of a team
    • measuring and calculating
    • using basic industry terminology to communicate effectively
    • reading plans and specifications
    • selecting and using plumbing tools, equipment and materials
    • producing simple technical drawings
    • using basic welding equipment
    • plus using plumbing pipes, fittings and fixtures to simulate plumbing installations.
      To complete the qualification, you are required to complete 16 core units plus 2 elective units.

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
