Solar Race Project

Since 2000, TAFE SA has a successful track record in the World Solar Challenge. As the sole South Australian entrant from the vocational education sector, TAFE SA Solar Spirit races 3000 kilometres from Darwin to Adelaide using power from the sun, competing against teams from around the world. A team of TAFE SA electrical, electronic, automotive and mechanical engineering students designed and produced the Solar Spirit and ran the car in the 2011, 2013, and 2015 World Solar Challenge race, which runs in October every second year. The team has an exciting brand new vehicle under construction for 2017. Our students work with the most current components and materials available, building the new racecar through student projects integrated with their curriculum work.
