TAFE SA cookery qualifications offer a world of opportunities for cooks and kitchen hands. You can learn how to prepare a huge variety of dishes using meat, seafood, poultry, vegetables and fruit. Other topics include stocks, sauces and soups, appetisers, salads and baked goods. Our courses also cover menu development, catering to dietary requirements and food safety. Graduates can expect to work with people from all over the world and experience many types of culinary techniques.

Understanding the need to create a strong aged care workforce in the future, Bidfood, Maxima, Southern Cross Care and TAFE SA have partnered to offer a program with scholarship opportunities for eligible applicants.  By taking part in this program you can: 

  • gain a Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (SIT20146),
  • receive mentoring from a dedicated Maxima Consultant and a TAFE SA lecturer 
  • have your placement within an aged care facility organised for you; and
  • receive specialist training on Bidfood software.

Ross studied a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery while working as a kitchen hand at Georges on Waymouth. While at TAFE SA, he won first place in the South Australian Training Awards for school-based apprentice of the year, and went on to represent SA at the national awards. Become a kitchen whizz with a Gastronomic Adventures workshop. Gastronomic Adventures is an exciting program of gourmet short courses presented by TAFE SA’s finest food lecturers at the Regency International Centre. You can learn how to make sausages and confectionery, pour the perfect coffee, brew beer, bake French breads, try your hand at Korean cuisine and much more. There are even courses for kids!
