Description

TAFE SA's courses for school students are designed for students in Year 11 to Year 12. They provide the opportunity to learn specific industry skills and gain credit towards a nationally recognised qualification, all while students undertake their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

If you have a passion for hairdressing or barbery, this course is your training pathway. You'll gain practical skills in hairdressing and barbering, as well as learn about interacting with clients and providing hairdressing and barbering services, as well as developing skills to become an integral part of a highly creative team.

Course Admission Requirements

You must be a school student undertaking SACE or equivalent, and meet the Flexible Industry Program eligibility criteria.

Course Delivery

  • Delivered one day per week over three terms,
  • Dates, times, course units and training plans may vary for each delivery location,
  • Training is a combination of simulated salon, classroom, and online learning,
  • It is recommended that students do not have a full study band at school if they wish to also study this qualification at TAFE SA,
  • At times, some courses may be combined with adults and/or apprentice classes,
  • Applications to study at a Technical College may require an alternative application process.

Additional Information

Students are required to purchase a student equipment kit - $350-$380. It is a requirement that a black shirt and black pants are worn as per workplace standards. Students will be required to wear full enclosed, non-slip, black, flat shoes.     Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216)
    Develop your skills and knowledge in salon assisting in greeting and preparing for clients, shampooing and basin services, head and shoulder massage techniques. Progress to practical skills in apply hair colour, braiding and drying hair to shape whilst working, communicating as part of a salon team and contributing to health and safety. Gain skills to efficiently receive and handle stock, producing visual merchandising displays and effectively selling retail to the customer. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 8 core units and 4 elective units.

    Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
