Ideal for individuals currently employed in or looking to enter the hospitality industry, particularly in roles involving the sale and distribution of alcohol. This may include food and beverage attendants at cafes and restaurants, bottle shop employees, or cellar door staff at wineries, breweries, and distilleries. You can complete your RSA at 17, but you must be 18 before you can serve or supply alcohol. What you need to know It is a legal requirement for anyone serving or supplying alcohol on a licensed premises to have completed Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training. Students commencing from Semester 2 onwards (July 2025) will be required to undertake a theory component of training and assessment online prior to attending the on-campus practical component of the course. To gain certification in the responsible service of alcohol (RSA) you must demonstrate your knowledge of the legal and community requirements for RSA and your skills in applying this knowledge in a simulated environment in role-play situations. The theory component covers the RSA skills and knowledge requirements common to all States and Territories. Some legislative requirements and knowledge will differ across borders. In some cases, after completion of this unit, State and Territory liquor authorities require candidates to complete a bridging course to address these specific differences. There will be two (2) assessment methods used to test your competency in the course at TAFE SA: 1. Responding to questions on RSA theory using our online LEARN platform. Note: You will receive immediate feedback on your answers and will be allowed two (2) attempts to answer the questions correctly. 2. Attending a TAFE SA campus to undertake practical role-play tasks in a simulated environment. During this practical session you must demonstrate your ability to: a. Follow the principles of RSA b. Assist customers to drink within appropriate limits c. Assess alcohol affected customers and identify those to whom sale or service must be refused d. Refuse to provide alcohol to a customer or customers You will see the full Assessment Student Instructions for both the theory and practical requirements once you are registered and have access to our LEARN site. Important Note: It is mandatory to complete the first assessment requirements on our online LEARN platform before attending the on-campus component of the course, to undertake the practical role-play assessment. Outcomes of course? On successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
