Basic Home and Building Maintenance


This hands-on, practical short course has been developed to help you gain the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle the day-to-day maintenance requests of a home or business that you may own, rent or supervise.

Over the duration of the 10 week course you will gain skills in:
- General plasterboard repairs
- Solid plastering repairs
- Fitting door locks, door handles and door latches
- How to hang a door
- Fit skirting and architraves
- Brick paving
- Basic concreting
- Painting
- Floor and wall tiling
- Window locks and latches
- Guttering and downpipe repairs
- Tap washer repairs
- Fence and gate repairs

The course will also provide you with knowledge on work health and safety requirements, as well as the safe use of hand and power tools.

Dress code: Australian standard safety boots, Australian standard safety glasses, sensible work clothes.

You will be required to bring a pen, pencil and a 5 or 8 metre tape measure each week.

Basic hands-on skills will be an advantage but are not required.

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
    Ability to speak, write and understand English.

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
