SHORT COURSE

Restricted Electrical Licence (Disconnect/Reconnect) - Skill Sets

Description

This course has been developed for individuals with an Australian Technical Trade qualification who are seeking to gain their Restricted Electrical Licence (Disconnect/Reconnect).

During this course you will gain the required skills and knowledge to assist you in obtaining a National Restricted Electrical Licence (NREL) for disconnecting and reconnecting single and polyphase connections and equipment. You will learn how to identify supply arrangements, follow isolation procedures, select and use testing and measuring devices, terminate and connect cables, and more.

Upon completion, individuals may be eligible to obtain a licence to disconnect and reconnect equipment that is specific to their trade.

All students must complete the core unit: Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace (UEENEEE101A). Shortly after enrolment, a lecturer will contact you for course counselling. At this stage, students will be placed into the additional unit(s) relevant to their trade and desired outcomes. These are:
1. Disconnect - reconnect appliances connected to low voltage installation wiring (UEENEEP010A), or
2. Disconnect - reconnect water heaters connected to low voltage installation wiring (UEENEEP014A), or
3. Disconnect - reconnect motors connected to low voltage installation wiring (UEENEEP015A).

Successful completion of the core unit and the elected second unit will result in one of the following Skill Sets:
1. Skill Set UEESS00093 (UEENEEE101A and UEENEEP010A) – for technical trades including electronics technicians and appliance repairers, or
2. Skill Set UEESS00096 (UEENEEE101A and UEENEEP014A) – for plumbers and gas fitters with a Certificate III in Plumbing, or
3. Skill Set UEESS00095 (UEENEEE101A and UEENEEP015A) – for technical trades including fitter and turners.

This course requires the completion of approximately 16 hours online pre-course study to prepare you for the face-to-face course work. On-campus coursework includes learning and assessment in a simulated environment, designed to provide learners with real-life scenarios aimed at preparing students for the scope of work that this licence allows.

If you are seeking information regarding your eligibility to obtain a NREL you will need to contact Consumer Business Services 131882 (ext. 3) prior to enrolling into the course as TAFESA does not issue or maintain licencing related to this qualification
