This free course provides information about careers in the Early Childhood Education and Care profession. It includes information about job roles in the sector, the different types of services, a typical day in the life working in early childhood, training pathways that you could take, and basic concepts and requirements for working in the sector.

As you work through this course, you'll be asked to reflect on your own strengths and how they align with areas important for working in roles in Early Childhood Education and Care.

The easy to follow, interactive course explores what it's really like to work in different roles including:

- Educator
- Room Leader
- Early Childhood Teacher
- School Services Officer
- Out of School Hours Care worker

Who's it for?

This course is designed for anyone who is:
- Considering working in early childhood education and care (ECEC) profession
- Curious to find out more about the types of ECEC services and job roles
- Exploring ECEC career options
- Exploring study pathways towards a job in ECEC

This course is a free interactive online course that you can self-navigate through. Once registered, you will receive log in details on how to access the course.

Outcomes of course

This course is designed to provide broader career information about ECEC careers. It will identify requirements to work in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector, including:

- Understanding the different job roles within early childhood services
- Using common terminology in the ECEC sector
- Recognising the qualities and responsibilities of an effective educator
- Communicating and interacting effectively with children and colleagues
- Identifying the basic care, safety, and learning needs of young children
- Exploring training pathways and qualification levels (TAFE and University)

This course has been developed by the Centre of Excellence in Early Childhood Education and Care, a joint initiative between the Australian Government and South Australian Government.
