Bookkeeping Essentials for Small Business Owners, Job Seekers and Migrants (Part 2)

The bookkeeping essentials skills course is designed for small business owners, job seekers, students and graduates seeking part-time or entry level employment in the areas of accounting, bookkeeping, business and financial services.

This course provides job seekers who do not have previous work experience and/or practical work skills and knowledge sought by employers and recruitment agencies.

This course is designed to support gaining entry level employment in the Accounting and Bookkeeping job roles including, accounts payable officer, accounts receivable officer, store keeper, inventory manager, stock control officer, contracted bookkeeper and accounts supervisor.

The units of competency that comprise in this course are Australian Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) approved for Licensed Bookkeepers or BAS agent registration or renewal of TPB registration.

It is recommended to complete Part 1 of this course prior to commencing Part 2.

Part 2 covers the following topics:
- Establishing and maintaining payroll system
- The preparation and lodgement of the Business Activity Statements (BAS)

Students will require access to Microsoft Windows to complete this course. This course requires students to purchase textbooks at an additional cost of approximately $150. More information will be provided following enrolment.

This course has either written or oral supervised assessment. Students will require access to video chat for assessment purposes.

  • Relevant work experience in bookkeeping services using XERO.
    OR
    Completion of Bookkeeping Essentials for Job Seekers (Part 1)
    Part 1 of this course provides practical vocational skills in areas including business tax calculations and day to day computerised bookkeeping (XERO).
  • Complete business activity and instalment activity statements (FNSTPB411)

    Establish and maintain payroll systems (FNSTPB412)

  • - Process Payroll: Payroll system and legislation, superannuation obligations, payment summaries and payroll calculations, manual payroll and accounting for salaries and wages, setting up the XERO payroll command centre, processing personal leave, holiday pay and leave loading, payroll tax liabilities, end of year procedures and reconciling payroll, salary sacrifice, timesheets and calculating a termination payment.

    - Prepare Business Activity statement: This covers the skills and knowledge required to identify and apply Australian Tax Office (ATO) compliance requirements to effectively process and complete Business Activity Statements (BAS), instalment activity statements (IAS) and other required reports, enter the transactions in XERO and make necessary adjustments and corrections in BAS.
  • You will be given 8 weeks to complete this course. If you study approximately 10-12 hours per week, we estimate that you would be able to complete the course within this time frame. However, as this is an online course, if you prefer you are able to complete it in a shorter time frame. This course has either written or oral supervised assessment. Students will require access to video chat for assessment purposes.
