If your future is in costume design, this degree enables you to design and construct costumes to create iconic looks and visually stunning garments. Costumes are a vital component of stage and screen productions, but are also used in cosplay, children’s entertainment, dance and competitions. This Flinders University degree is delivered in partnership with TAFE SA, and combines theoretical study of the costume industry with hands-on experience.

Course Admission Requirements

any one of:

  • Any Certificate III or higher OR
  • Satisfactory achievement in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) OR
  • Successful completion of SACE (year 12) results (or equivalent) achieving an ATAR of 60 or above

This course is conducted in conjunction with a University provider, fees are paid directly to the partner provider and may differ between institutions.
    • The Flinders University Bachelor of Creative Arts (Costume Design) is offered in partnership with TAFE SA and Flinders University. You will be required to undertake the TAFE SA Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising (MST50116) concurrently with the Flinders University Bachelor of Creative Arts (Costume Design).
    • Students will be registered with both TAFE SA and Flinders University. Separate fees apply for each institution. Please see Flinders Uni website for Bachelor fees. The Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Merchandising MST50116 is offered as Full Fee Paying, delivered across 3 semesters, approximate total cost of $15,500.
    • You may be eligible for a VET Student Loan for the Diploma part of the course. VET Students Loans is an income-contingent loan scheme that assists eligible students to pay for all or part of their Vocational Education and Training (VET) tuition fees when studying one or more eligible VET courses.
    • Applications are made to Flinders University on the SATAC University undergraduate website or by clicking onto the Apply now button above.
    • Students will need to access industry specific machinery and major equipment while studying at TAFE SA Fashion Program.
    • Students are also required to provide their own equipment kit, consisting of basic sewing, patternmaking and design tools. An equipment kit list detailing the requirements and supplier information is provided to students by the TAFE SA Fashion Program.

    The Bachelor of Creative Arts (Costume Design) is a Flinders University degree offered in collaboration with TAFE SA*. The degree gives you the skills to design patterns and construct costumes as well as giving you knowledge of costumes from different periods of time. You will have the opportunity to apply your practical and research skills in a performance project for either stage or screen. *Students will enrol concurrently in the Flinders' Bachelor of Creative Arts (Costume Design) and the TAFE SA Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising (MST50116).
