A labour hire business provides workers to another business and pays a worker’s wages, accommodation or meal allowance either in full or in part. Labour hire services are commonly referred to as on-hire arrangements. From 1 September 2018 all labour hire providers must be licensed. Businesses can apply online for a licence from 1 March 2018. It will also be an offence for anyone to use an unlicensed provider. This unit will provide you with a broad overview of legal and administrative requirements affecting the operation of a small business. Specific topics include sources of Australian law, the structure of our court system, various ownership structures, business regulations, licences and registrations, contract law, law of agency, consumer law, land and lease matters, law of torts and protecting intellectual property. Other aspects covered include industrial law, taxation law and insurance.
