This skill set reflects the skill requirements for providing person centred support to older people in various settings. Topics covered include: empowerment of older people, Dementia, provision of personal support needs, nutrition and feeding, oral care, hygiene and grooming, manual tasks and bed making. You are able to start the course without providing evidence of vaccination, but up to date influenza (flu) and COVID-19 vaccination evidence will need to be required prior to vocational placement being arranged. In line with Federal Government Regulations, legislation and organisational policies, you are required to complete what is commonly referred to as a criminal history check prior to commencing vocational work placement. Depending on organisational requirements, these may be in the form of a: 1. Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening and Background Check 2. National Police Clearance (NPC) 3. National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Placement providers will request to see evidence of one or more of the above, before accepting you on placement. This will be arranged with you by TAFE SA's placement team. The Commonwealth Department of Health has made it mandatory for all students undertaking vocational placements in health related sectors to have up to date COVID-19 vaccinations. Ageing support services may require you to have an annual flu vaccination. This can be arranged through your doctor or a chemist and the cost of this is your responsibility. Current Manual Handling evidence required for placement.
