CHCSS00097 Individual Support - Ageing Skill Set

Description

This skill set reflects the skill requirements for providing person centred support to older people in various settings.

Topics covered include: empowerment of older people, Dementia, provision of personal support needs, nutrition and feeding, oral care, hygiene and grooming, manual tasks and bed making.

You are able to start the course without providing evidence of vaccination, but up to date influenza (flu) and COVID-19 vaccination evidence will need to be required prior to vocational placement being arranged.

In line with Federal Government Regulations, legislation and organisational policies, you are required to complete what is commonly referred to as a criminal history check prior to commencing vocational work placement. Depending on organisational requirements, these may be in the form of a: 1. Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening and Background Check 2. National Police Clearance (NPC) 3. National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Placement providers will request to see evidence of one or more of the above, before accepting you on placement. This will be arranged with you by TAFE SA's placement team.

The Commonwealth Department of Health has made it mandatory for all students undertaking vocational placements in health related sectors to have up to date COVID-19 vaccinations.

Ageing support services may require you to have an annual flu vaccination. This can be arranged through your doctor or a chemist and the cost of this is your responsibility.

  • Hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field.

    Completion of the Training Account Consent Form - you are required to upload a completed form at the time of enrolment. You can download a copy of the form under the Files & Resources tab below.

    This course is fee free via a joint initiative of the Australian and South Australian Governments and you must meet criteria to be eligible for a fee free place. Eligibility criteria can be found under the Files & Resources tab below.

  • Course delivery is undertaken in a combination of both face to face on campus, and virtual classroom environment.

    This skill set requires all students to undertake Vocational Placement. Vocational Placement hours are determined by the host organisations roster. Students are expected to be available for a range of shifts Monday to Friday that may commence at 7am or could finish at 11pm. Start and finish times and days are not individually negotiable.

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.

Approximately 12 weeks of on campus, virtual classroom and online learning plus 80 hours of placement.

Orientation will be held on 3 April 2023. Classes will be held on Monday & Tuesday from 1 May, then Monday-Friday the week of 29 May till 2 June from 9:30am-4:00pm.

Placement commences after the completion of theoretical units of competency. Note that placement dates may not be included in the course dates.

If you are ineligible for this fee free course the full fee cost of $1,112 will apply. Secondary school students are not eligible for the subsidised fee. Cost of clearances and vaccinations are the responsibility of students, they are not charged by TAFE SA. A TAFE SA polo top will need to be purchased at a cost of $33 for the work placement.
