Course Admission Requirements
(for International Applications)

  • Academic IELTS score of 5.5 Overall with minimum of 5.0 in all bands or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.

Course Notes

  • Students may wish to consider one of three TAFE SA packages:
    1. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, and the Diploma of Hospitality Management.
    2. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, and the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management.
    3. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management and the Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management. Students would receive 36 units of credit (approximately 1 year) into the Bachelor, making the Bachelor duration 2 years.
  • Students choosing the cookery package, which includes the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and the Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery will, during the 2nd semester of the package, study concurrently the rest of the Certificate III and commence the first 3 units of the Certificate IV. Details of the concurrent study schedule and charges will be outlined in the offer letter.

* Students will be required to purchase a name badge (A$10), a uniform (approximately A$115 excluding shoes) and equipment/knives (approximately A$390) unless already purchased for the previous course. Details for these expenses will be provided closer to or on enrolment. Students choosing the cookery package, which includes the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and the Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, will be required to pay 50% of the Certificate III fee in their 1st semester. Then, in the 2nd semester of the package students will study concurrently and be required to pay the remaining 50% of the Certificate III fee, as well as the charge for the first few units of the Certificate IV. Details of the concurrent study schedule and charges will be outlined in the offer letter.

Note: TAFE SA course fees are subject to regular increases and are reviewed annually. As such, the course fees for 2023 have increased and are published on this site. TAFE SA accepts applications for courses commencing beyond the year advertised and tuition fees for these years will be higher. TAFE SA and their agents reserve the right to make any changes necessary.

    This course includes managing diversity, food preparation equipment, basic methods of cookery, appetisers, salads, stocks, sauces, soups, poultry, seafood, meat, cakes, pastries, breads, planning and costing basic menus, desserts, leadership and food and workplace safety. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 26 core units and 7 elective units.

    Adelaide has four distinct seasons, with moderate winters and warm to hot summers. In winter you will need woolly jumpers and jackets and in summer, shorts and t-shirts. The heat in South Australia is dry, rather than humid.
