Delivered in partnership with TAFE SA and Flinders University, the rigorous program of study explores both practical and theoretical elements of dance. Classes cover classical and contemporary dance, together with acting, anatomy and kinesiology, history, music, composition and production, with intensive training held in state-of-the-art rehearsal and performance spaces. The course is industry focused, giving you rare and exclusive access to professional dance artists, companies and their networks.

Course Admission Requirements

  • Satisfactory performance in an audition

and any one of:

  • Any Certificate III or higher
  • Satisfactory achievement in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
  • Successful completion of SACE (year 12) results (or equivalent) achieving an ATAR of 60 or above

This course is conducted in conjunction with a University provider, fees are paid directly to the partner provider and may differ between institutions.

    • As part of the requirements for progression from the Certificate IV in Dance to the Advanced Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) you will need to participate in a dance progression activity to demonstrate competence in the contemporary dance style at diploma level.
    • The Flinders University degree is delivered in partnership with TAFE SA at the Adelaide College of the Arts in Light Square, students will be registered with both TAFE SA and Flinders University. Students will study full-time over three years and graduate with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance) upon successful completion of all subjects. Students who do not complete the requirements of the full Bachelor qualification may exit with the highest level of qualification attained - Certificate IV in Dance or Advanced Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance).
    • Separate fees apply for each institution. Please see Flinders University website for Bachelor fees. Fees for the Advanced Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) CUA60113 are $6,745 charged over 5 semesters. Fees for the Certificate IV in Dance CUA40113 are $2,500. Final fees will be determined at enrolment.
    • The Advanced Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) is an approved VET Student Loan course for eligible students.

    • All students are required to wear the appropriate clothing to training sessions. This information will be supplied at the commencement of the program.
    • There will be 5 major seasons over the 3 years as part of the requirements of performance. During the final 2 weeks of each term associated with these performances night rehearsals will be required. Students will be asked to forgo any previous employment engagements during these times.
  • Total hours required: 70

    During the Advanced Diploma of Dance students will undertake industry secondment as part of the unit CUAIND601 – Work professionally in the creative arts industry. There is a minimum requirement of 2 placements.

  • Employment Outcomes

    Graduates of the Dance stream will have the necessary technique and skills to establish careers as performers, choreographers, artistic directors of dance companies, collaborators, community dance project directors, curators, producers, teachers, dance researchers and artistic leaders in a wide range of contexts locally, nationally and internationally.

    Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

The course has a strong emphasis on performance and on realising productions for public presentation and equips you with comprehensive professional skills in the areas of major employment in the entertainment industry, realistic dance techniques, devised movement practices, dance project realisation, choreography and stage performance. The course introduces you to areas of development and increasing importance in the Australian industry encouraging you to work as a conceptual artist through courses specialising in techniques of group devising, auto-performance and choreography and develops your awareness of the relevance of these discourses to professional practice.
