Cooking Up a Storm of English

AMEP Cert II students, who are currently enrolled in the unit: ‘Deliver and comprehend basic spoken procedural texts’, cooked up a storm in the kitchen at Noarlunga Campus recently.

Seven incredible dishes were produced: Egyptian falafel, pakoras from Pakistan, Chinese mooncakes, dumplings, sweet rice cakes, Thai chicken curry, and tuna rice from Iran.

The preparation for the day involved writing, editing, and revising their recipes and then planning and discussions around the logistics of cooking in the kitchen together.

Our students’ hospitality was outstanding. They hosted students from Women’s Ed in the TAFE SA John Reynell restaurant at the Noarlunga campus, not only sharing their cooking but also their recipes. Some commented they’d never tried dumplings or pakoras and would now like to make it themselves.
A huge thank you to Dustin Rodgers, Cooking Lecturer, who supported us in using the kitchen, and to Julia Macey, our wonderful volunteer of 14 years, who was as cool as a cucumber as always.
