Meet Miguel, a Certificate 3 student at AMEP who is doing our inaugural Café Service class with the Pathways to Employment and Training in Hospitality program. Students are having a wonderful time learning how to become baristas and making and serving all kinds of coffee at the Coffee Academy at the Regency Campus of TAFE SA.

Miguel says he wants to do his work placement at Little Mission on Light Square because he loves the building, the people and the art displayed there. Students learn English for employment and all facets of working in a café and are allowed to gain work experience that often leads to employment.

All TAFE SA students and staff receive a 10% discount at Little Mission and pay only $4 for a coffee where they can sit and enjoy the beautiful space. Visit Little Mission at 63 Light Square, Adelaide.

Rick Wang spoke to Oscar from The Red Robin about sourcing and roasting raw coffee beans. Rick owned a small coffee business in Taiwan before he came to Australia. Rick still enjoys roasting his coffee at home as a hobby. He says he chose to do his placement at ‘My Kingdom for a Horse’ because: “It was one of the first cafés I visited when I came four years ago. It roasts its own coffee beans. After tasting it, I thought the coffee is very good”.

We are so happy to support local businesses and wish all the students in Café Service, Housekeeping and Food Handling all the best for their upcoming placements.

If you are interested in these courses, please contact Bronwyn Keanie at AMEP, 7210 3692.
