Work with babies and children

Working with children at school age or early childhood is a rewarding career choice. TAFE SA children’s services qualifications can prepare you for a career in childcare, preschool and out-of-school-hours care. Qualifications in education support allow you to pursue work in a preschool, primary or high school, assisting teachers in a range of settings. This can include supporting students’ literacy, numeracy and computer skills, and assisting students with disabilities.

Come and Play! Playsessions at TAFE SA

Playsessions are fun, free, two-hour sessions for pre-schoolers, held at TAFE SA’s Centres for Learning and Practice at Gilles Plains, Elizabeth and Regency Park. Students from our children’s services program plan and create a play and learning environment for the children, with support from their lecturers.

Playsessions are based on the children’s ages, strengths and interests, and give families an opportunity to share ideas and support their children’s learning, thinking and imagination. Activities include creativity, music and singing, physical play, maths, science and technology.

Playsessions are fun for children

Parents, grandparents, caregivers or family day care educators who bring children in for playsessions are responsible for their supervision and stay in close proximity to ensure the children’s safety.

Playsessions are fun for children, and vital to the student educators, who get the opportunity to implement their knowledge in a real-world situation.

Playsession has provided me the invaluable experience of working in a nurturing and educational team environment. It gave me the opportunity to work closely with children and their families, with the on-hand support, guidance and counsel of educators. Playsession has taught me to take a holistic approach to the emotional, physical, cognitive and linguistic development of children, and has been extremely important in my development as an early childhood educator.” Lauren, Diploma of Education and Care student.
