Information for employers

Apprenticeships and traineeships are a smart way to recruit and train employees to meet the current and future needs of your business.

With TAFE SA’s flexible training options, specialist facilities and industry-experienced teachers, you can be confident that your staff will receive the highest quality trade training available.

If you want to know how to take on an apprentice or trainee for your business, we’ve set out the basic steps in this short video or follow the steps below.

The apprenticeship process - who does what?

Where do I start?

Here’s how to register an apprentice or trainee using TAFE SA as your preferred training provider:

  1. Look at the list of apprenticeship and traineeship courses on the TAFE SA website to see the courses that TAFE SA currently has on offer.

  2. Contact an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider (contact details below) to support your business in taking on an apprentice or trainee.

  3. The AASN provider will help you find an apprentice or trainee, which could include an existing employee or recruiting a new employee.

  4. Discuss with your AASN provider if your business is eligible for government incentives/support.

  5. Let your AASN provider know that you've chosen TAFE SA as your training provider. TAFE SA will then complete a training plan with you and your new apprentice or trainee, tailored to your needs.

  6. The AASN provider will write up a contract of training for you and your apprentice or trainee to sign. Following this, TAFE SA will contact all parties to finalise a training plan.

  7. TAFE SA will maintain support for your apprentice or trainee throughout their training. Once they've completed their training with us they'll receive an official parchment, acknowledging that they've completed a nationally-recognised qualification with TAFE SA.
