Multicultural Affairs Minister Zoe Bettison announces a Multicultural Women

Culturally diverse women with leadership aspirations are being given the chance to further their skills through a free training program at TAFE SA.

TAFE SA is reintroducing its successful Multicultural Women’s Leadership course after receiving additional targeted funding from the state government and is seeking expressions of interest in the program for 2023.

The training assists women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to develop leadership skills for work and community settings.

The Certificate IV Program in Multicultural Women’s Leadership incorporates the Certificate IV in Women’s Advocacy (10740NAT), which is a nationally recognised qualification.

Skills covered include effective leadership and decision-making, advocating for others in the community and raising awareness of gender issues in contemporary Australian society.

The two-year, part-time course is fee free for eligible applicants, with participation supported by funding from the SA Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Zoe Bettison says that as a multicultural state, “it is important for us to support and encourage women from diverse cultural backgrounds to engage in learning and further their leadership skills”.

“The model of peer learning that the program uses means the participants build incredible supportive professional networks in addition to developing new skills,’ she says.

“This will help fulfil their career and community aspirations, and to lead by being positive role models for all women.”

TAFE SA Chief Executive David Coltman has welcomed the opportunity to deliver the Multicultural Women’s Leadership course.

“TAFE SA is very aware of the strengths that diversity brings to the workplaces of South Australia,” he says.

“This truly outstanding program provides culturally and linguistically diverse women with skills that help them advance their careers whilst, at the same time, empowering their community and strengthening their voices.”

TAFE SA lecturer Jean Georgopolos has coordinated previous Multicultural Women’s Leadership courses and says there are many benefits for participants and the community as a whole.

“The Multicultural Women’s Leadership courses reflect commitment towards redressing gender-based inequalities of CALD women, by building capacity for workplace and community leadership and participation,” Jean says.

“The courses enhance personal, professional and advocacy capabilities; arming graduates with broad awareness, self-belief and determination.”

Women wanting to apply for this course are invited to submit an Expression of Interest by close of business on Monday, November 21. More information and an Expression of Interest form are available on the TAFE SA website.
