Presented by Ku Arts,
Gathering: National First Nations Weaving Salon
is an exhibition coinciding with
Kurdinthi
, a landmark gathering of over one hundred Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander weavers in Tarntanya (Adelaide).
Gathering will bring together works by 48 artists representing diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations, in a celebration of contemporary weaving practice, cultural resilience and artistic innovation at Light Square Gallery.
Curated by Emerging First Nations Curators
Marli Macumba
and
Kristal Matthews
, with mentoring from
Hannah Presley
, Senior Curator, Art Museums at University of Melbourne, Gathering: National First Nations Weaving Salon offers audiences an opportunity to experience the diversity and dynamism of fibre practices, from works utilising traditional techniques and materials to bold contemporary interpretations with materials that are collected, found, bought or made.
Gathering is a testament to the strength of First Nations’ storytelling, intergenerational knowledge sharing, the interrelatedness that exists and new connections to be made between weavers from across the country.
Gathering: National First Nations Weaving Salon has been developed through the Ku Arts Emerging First Nations Curators Program with program and development support from
Mel Henderson
, Arts Program Producer, Ku Arts.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which TAFE SA stands.
