Employment Outcomes

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés and coffee shops. Individuals may work with some autonomy or in a team but usually under close supervision.
Possible job roles include bar attendant, bottle shop attendant, catering assistant, food and beverage attendant, housekeeping attendant, porter, receptionist or front office assistant, and gaming attendant.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Qualifications & Skills Covered

Certificate I in Hospitality
This certificate provides students with the skills and knowledge to carry out tasks such as serving food and beverage at a counter, table service drinks, clearing tables and providing housekeeping/room services. This will assist students to work in restaurants, hotels/pubs, motels, function operations, clubs, cafés and specialist coffee shops.

Certificate II in Hospitality
This certificate provides students with the skills and knowledge to carry out tasks such as responsible service of alcohol, undertaking mise en place, serving wine, food and beverage to tables, preparing and serving cocktails at a bar, selling beverages in a retail liquor outlet, attending gaming machines, providing housekeeping services, providing reception or front desk services, providing assistance in a banqueting operations. This will assist students to work in restaurants, hotels/pubs, motels, function centres, clubs, cafés and specialist coffee shops.

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.
