      Course Admission Requirements (for International Applications)

      • Academic IELTS score of 5.5 Overall with minimum of 5.0 in all bands or equivalent.
      • Satisfactory completion of Year 10 or overseas equivalent.

      Course Notes

      • Students wishing to undertake the Diploma of Applied Geosciences will need to successfully complete this Certificate III in Mining Exploration first. The Certificate III commences in February of each year, whilst the Diploma commences in July of each year. The Certificate is 1 semester in length and the Diploma a further 3 semesters so the total duration would be 2 academic years to receive both qualifications.

      International Course - application process

      If you are applying from onshore, generally, you will need to apply for an international course to TAFE South Australia at least two months before you want to start your studies in Australia. If you are applying from offshore it is highly recommended that you apply at least four months in advance.

      Employment Outcomes

      Australia's world-class minerals industry encompasses exploration, mining and processing of minerals to basic mineral commodity stage. It is acknowledged internationally for its capability - from exploration to mine completion, innovative equipment and services, and associated research. These courses provide fundamental training for employment as a mineral exploration field assistant, pit technician and underground sampler. Employment opportunities are also available in geotechnical, foundation/construction, mineral exploration, waterwell, and environmental drilling.

      Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

      Qualifications & Skills Covered

      Certificate III in Mining Exploration
      This course aims to train you to become a geoscience field assistant. Geoscience field assistants work alongside geoscientists in various areas of mineral, oil and gas exploration undertaking various geological duties in the field and office. 7 core units plus 11 electives.

      Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full Qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
