Qualifications & Skills Covered
Diploma of Graphic Design (CUV50311)
9 core units:
- Develop and extend design skills and practice
- Refine drawing and other visual represent tools
- Research visual communication history and theory
- Produce graphic designs for 2D and 3D applications
- Produce typographic design solutions
- Create and manipulate graphics
- Design and manipulate complex layouts
- Develop graphic design practice to meet industry needs
- Present a body of own creative work
- plus 10 elective units.
Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design
This is a two-year study program, which incorporating both the Diploma of Graphic Design and Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design. All students complete a common core of subject topics and choose their area of specialisation by completing the Graphic Design, Digital Design or Illustration Stream. Students can exit after their first year of study at Diploma level.
Core Subject Topics
The core subject topics are delivered across all three streams and teach the foundation skills and knowledge of Graphic Design. Study topics include design foundations; computer graphics; design art and history; drawing and visual representation; typography; design studio; branding; and design business.
Graphic Design Stream Subject Topics
This stream aims to develop multi-skilled individuals who will be flexible in their approach to work within the Graphic Design Industry. Study topics include advanced typography; illustration; photo imaging; marketing; packaging design; advertising; editorial and publishing design; creative studio; and basic web design and construction.
Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full Qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
Studying at TAFE SA is one of the easiest pathways towards a University Degree. Credit Transfer is the formal recognition that parts of a TAFE SA course are equivalent in content and level to parts of some University courses.
