· A competence in written and spoken English that will enable them to teach the language to students without causing error.
How to Apply
International Course - application process
If you are applying from onshore, generally, you will need to apply for an international course to TAFE South Australia at least two months before you want to start your studies in Australia. If you are applying from offshore it is highly recommended that you apply at least four months in advance.

Employment Outcomes
Certificates in English proficiency provide English language skills to those from a non English speaking background. These courses provide a graduated progression towards English language -proficiency, covering the four macro skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition they provide vital knowledge and awareness of Australian cultural and societal attributes, issues and values. The program is flexible and provides a range of options for students who are new Australian residents, with face-to-face delivery, distance learning and volunteer tutors at home. Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
The Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is to address the skills and knowledge requirements for designing and delivering an English language training program for learners from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds(CALD). This course provides a strong focus on developing and using a range of adult teaching methods to assist learners to develop and improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. TESOL methodologies are used in developing English language skills, through grammatical concepts and traditional metalanguage while developing and enhancing skills in cross cultural awareness. This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in TESOL either in Australia or aboard. Participants in this course have included the following: Teachers of English as a Foreign/Second Language (EFL/ESL) in Australia and overseas; Qualified teachers who wish to add English as a Foreign Language/English as a Second Language teaching skills to enhance their current qualifications; Qualified teachers from overseas who wish to improve their English teaching skills;and Volunteers.
Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Credit Transfer
Studying at TAFE SA is one of the easiest pathways towards a University Degree. Credit Transfer is the formal recognition that parts of a TAFE SA course are equivalent in content and level to parts of some University courses.
