This course will give you the skills required to teach English as a second or foreign language. There is an increasing demand for English teachers in various parts of the world and language centres and schools are keen to employ those with training in this specialist area.
Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (40649SA) The Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is to address the skills and knowledge requirements for designing and delivering an English language training program for learners from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds(CALD).
This course provides a strong focus on developing and using a range of adult teaching methods to assist learners to develop and improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
TESOL methodologies are used in developing English language skills, through grammatical concepts and traditional metalanguage while developing and enhancing skills in cross cultural awareness.
This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in TESOL either in Australia or aboard.
Participants in this course have included the following:
- Teachers of English as a Foreign/Second Language (EFL/ESL) in Australia and overseas
- Qualified teachers who wish to add English as a Foreign Language/English as a Second Language teaching skills to enhance their current qualifications
- Qualified teachers from overseas who wish to improve their English teaching skills and Volunteers.
Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full Qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
