CGI & Visual Effects

CGI & Visual Effects

This two-year Advanced Diploma qualification (incorporating the Diploma in the first year) is for students that want to excel in the field of visual effects and 3D computer animation for television and cinema.

It is essentially two courses rolled into one: TV production and 3D computer animation (incorporating Visual Effects).

Students are taught the practical and theoretical aspects of the movie and television making process so that they understand where computer-generated imagery fits in the workflow of a production. With a hands-on practical approach by our passionate teaching staff, students get to use industry-standard 2D and 3D software and broadcast-standard hardware.

Software and Hardware

Staff are committed to reviewing software and hardware standards on a regular basis with purpose of mirroring industry requirements and practices at all times. This provides an excellent foundation for our graduates by making them technologically savvy and well equipped to the ever-changing demands of the film and visual effects industry.

Industry Involvement

The CGI and VFX faculty constantly seek industry input with our program and delivery through industry consultation via our Industry Reference Group (IRG) and guest, industry speakers.

Our guest speakers range from local, national and international visual effects companies like Rising Sun Pictures, Animal Logic, Disney, WETA Digital and Double Negative.

We have also been fortunate enough to secure industry specialists to teach various subjects in our programs over the years.

"We've got a lot of TAFE graduates and I would say that of all the educational institutions of South Australia, they are the highest represented amongst our employee base.  I see it going from strength to strength. They're really open to listening to us and what they need.  You want education to listen to you and produce the kind of graduates that you need and TAFE have shown that they've done that."
Kirsty Parkin, Manager - Training and Education, Rising Sun Pictures.

We also have a dedicated TAFE SA CGI and Visual Effects Facebook group.
