Drafting and Design
Raya Gardiner chose to study a Diploma of Building Design at TAFE for the opportunity to gain practical knowledge which she felt would help her to be more prepared for working life.
This approach worked in Raya’s favour, achieving industry employment soon after finishing her course.
“Studying at TAFE worked out really well for me. I achieved a new qualification that led to a brilliant new job.
“The support from the teaching staff was very helpful in assisting me to gain employment.
“TAFE allowed me to learn the skills I needed to start working as a junior drafter. There’s still a steep learning curve when starting a new role, but TAFE definitely gave me the building blocks to start with confidence.”
Raya moved in to building design, after originally starting with a visual arts course.
“Initially I studied Visual Arts but I soon realised I had more of a technical desire,” Raya explains.
“Building Design turned out to be a brilliant marriage between the visual side and the technical side of drafting and I really enjoyed the course.”
Raya believes Tonsley TAFE will be a “fantastic space” for student learning.
“I think it will be fantastic having all the building courses at the one campus – it’s a great opportunity to feed off each other in a collaborative learning environment.”
