Adelaide College of the Arts Writing
Staff Profile: Katie Spain
Katie grew up on a dairy farm in Meningie but gave up dairy life to pursue the writing dream in Germany and London where she spent seven years working for the BBC and East London radio and in digital reporting and social media for and magicalia.com and lastminute.com. She also produced behind the scenes blogs for West End theatre companies and actors before spending two years chasing musicians and around the Europe festival circuit (microphone in hand) for music website Seatwave.com. Australia eventually tugged at her heartstrings so she jetted in to Sydney and spent two years waking up at the crack of dawn to manage the online content for NovaFM breakfast radio show (Merrick, Rosso & Kate Ritchie then Merrick, Dools & Ricki-Lee). When she was done snapping, filming and editing the craziness that went on in the Sydney studio she eventually returned to Adelaide (sleep deprived) to work as staff writer and digital for the Adelaide* magazine. Four years later she continues to work for News Limited as features writer and digital guru for SA Weekend Magazine, The Advertiser, Sunday Mail and interstate affiliates. She is obsessed about her vintage caravan and one day (soon) will set off in it and write a book. She is also far too old to wear glitter but does so anyway.
