Sally Collard-Gentle

Staff Profile: Sally Collard-Gentle

Lecturer in Classical Ballet

Trained from the age of 10 at the Royal Ballet School London, Sally joined Sadlers Wells Opera Ballet in 1964 under the Artistic Direction of Peter Darrell. She became a founder member of the Scottish Ballet Company in 1969 rising to the position of 1st Principle.
Sally was chosen by Hans Brenaa of the Royal Danish Ballet, to dance the leading role in the Bournonville classic La Sylphide. It was this role she danced with both Rudolf Nureyev and Fernando Bujones, later sharing the lead with Dame Margot Fonteyn on a tour to Australia and New Zealand, returning to dance with the Australian Ballet the following year.
In a career lasting over twenty five years Sally has danced most of the principal roles in the classical repertoire in the worlds leading Opera Houses and Theatres before Heads of State and Royalty. She has modelled for fashion designers such as Bill Gibb and has been sculptured by Benno Shotz, Sculptor to the Queen.

Sally is Patron of the Peter Darrell Trust, The Australian Classical Youth Ballet and is an honouree member of Cechetti Ballet Australia.

1996 saw her on the Dance Advisory Board to the Department of the Arts and Cultural Development. She has delivered master classes to Australian Dance Theatre, Leigh Warren and Dancers, Sydney Dance Company, Chunky Move, Beijing Modern Dance Company, the National Ballet of China, Taiwan National University of Arts Taipei, Victorian College of the Arts, Western Australian Academy of the Performing Arts and most recently Beijing Normal University ( Dance.)

Sally has been lecturing at Adelaide College of the Arts for the last twenty years and is a member of the Tertiary Dance Council of Australia.
