TAFE SA Chief Executive Robin Murt was in Port Augusta last week (Wednesday 28 June) meeting local TAFE SA staff and community representatives to discuss vocational training in the region.
Mr Murt also attended a graduation ceremony of the Aboriginal Law Studies Program at the TAFE SA Port Augusta campus, delivering a speech and presenting certificates to the graduates.
The Aboriginal Law Studies program is a collaboration between TAFE SA, the Aboriginal Advisory Council and the Law Society of South Australia to provide the opportunity for local Aboriginal students to gain a Certificate IV in Legal Services qualification and employment in law-related work.
It also opens a pathway to higher education and a law degree at Adelaide University.
Mr Murt said he was pleased to attend in-person to congratulate the graduates of this unique program.
“TAFE SA’s mission is to transform lives through education and to do this we must collaborate with industry and other Government agencies to create opportunities for education and advancement,” he said.
“I congratulate the graduates on grasping this opportunity through the Aboriginal Law Studies Program and I wish them a very successful future.”
Mr Murt said TAFE SA training across South Australia has been transitioning from a traditional campus-based model to delivering training in industry and community using local, fit-for-purpose facilities.
He said TAFE SA had increased its options for online learning and many courses are now delivered using a blended method of face-to-face classroom time matched with online modules that can be completed within the student’s own schedule.
“Our online delivery has increased to match with the students of today and last year we used more than 340 different locations for training throughout 2016, including community libraries, youth centres, football clubs, local businesses and hotels,” he said.
“This flexibility in where and how we deliver our training means we can better match with local demand.”
