The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses are designed for upper intermediate level International students who are planning to do further study in a TAFE SA Award or university course, and provide the necessary academic English skills required for this purpose.
The course aims to prepare students to be successful in interacting with native speakers and teachers in TAFE SA Award courses and also prepares them for study in other academic institutions both in Australia and internationally.
Successful completion of an EAP course can provide a direct pathway to TAFE SA award courses and students who have successfully gained a credit result in the EAP (20 weeks) will satisfy the English language entry criteria for undergraduate courses (with a requirement of an overall IELTS score of 6.0) at the University of South Australia.
The course has a focus on:
- Developing high-level academic skills: writing, listening and note taking, reading, comprehension; research skills, academic language for oral presentations and seminars, study skills and group work
- Developing grammar, topic pronunciation and computer literacy
- Developing your vocabulary for your future award course.
Course admission requirements
EAP 20: A general or academic IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent, with a minimum of 4.5 in all macroskills. EAP IO: Academic or general overall score of 5.0 IELTS with no band lower than 4.5 IELTS or equivalent.
