Expected Employment Outcome Example
This qualification is designed to prepare people for occupations such as upholstery tradesperson working in the furnishing or marine sectors. It is for people (including possible apprentices) wanting to acquire the skills and knowledge to work in the upholstery sector of the furnishing industry.
Upholsterers cover or re-cover furniture with fabric or other material and sometimes repair furniture. They can also create items of furniture or other specialised covers and awnings for the marine, automotive and caravan markets.
Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Certificate III in Upholstery
4 mandatory units, 15 specialist units, 5 elective units: Follow safe working policies and practices; Communicate in the workplace; Carry out measurements and calculations; Work effectively with others; Use upholstery sector hand and power tools; Fit upholstery components; Apply contemporary foundations to upholstered furniture; Machine sew upholstery final cover materials (basic); Develop cutting plan and cut single layer upholstery fabric; Dismantle/reassemble furniture for upholstering; Apply traditional foundations to upholstered furniture; Fit and apply final cover materials to furniture using basic techniques; Fit and apply leather to furniture; Apply finishing techniques to upholstered furniture; Cut, sew and fit skirts to upholstered furniture; Cut, sew and fit or fill cushions; Read and interpret work documents; Estimate and cost job; Handle dangerous goods/hazardous substances.

- Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian
Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
- Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees
In July 2012 the South Australian Government will be introducing the Skills For All policy initiative.
Skills For All may impact the eligibility and funding arrangements for government subsidised vocational education and training in South Australia.
As a direct result of this initiative, TAFE SA will reassess all student fees prior to Semester 2, 2012. This may result in some student fees decreasing whilst others may increase.
