The Tourism and Events industries are vibrant and growing areas in which to work. The opportunities and excitement of discovering new places, meeting people from different cultures, planning and managing events ranging from business conferences to music festivals are waiting for you.

The Tourism Program at TAFE SA helps students develop appropriate skills and knowledge for the Tourism industry, both domestically and internationally. The Program provides students with a broad knowledge base and develops their practical skills through interactive learning techniques, including virtual tourism enterprises, practical and volunteer work placements, industry visits and industry based projects.

TourismStudying a TAFE SA event management course will arm you with the skills to manage convents and major events. During your study you will learn about: 

  • coordinating guest and delegate registrations 
  • booking supplier services 
  • developing sponsorship proposals 
  • developing an event concept 
  • developing conference programs. 

Once you have completed your course you will have the opportunity to pursue a career as a:

  • conference coordinator
  • events coordinator 
  • meetings coordinator 
  • hotel sales marketing and events executive.

 

Employment

Certificate level Tourism and Events courses provide students with the operational skills to function in most tourism settings. Students gain experience and skills in such areas as booking and coordinating tourism services, selling tourism products and services and providing destination advice to customers. 

Diploma level courses provide graduates with higher level skills and heightened knowledge of the tourism industry. Students could expect to gain an understanding of how to interpret product information, develop and implement local or regional tourism plans, research tourism information and coordinate the production of tourism related marketing brochures. 

 The Degree provides a specific focus on the development of extended theoretical knowledge of industry management principles and practices. Students studying the Degree will refine and extend their skills in critical thinking; including international marketing, strategic management, global tourism and management of sustainable tourism development. 

The Degree will deepen understanding of management theory and its application at both national and international levels.
