Bright future for hair and beauty training in the regions

Aug 12, 2015

PortPirieHairdressingStudentsTAFE SA has delivered its first hairdressing training in Port Pirie, with a three-day course for 15 secondary school students.
Strong student interest arising from the short course, school support and a number of salons in Port Pirie has led to a Certificate II in Hairdressing course starting later this term.
Lecturer Lisa Brennan describes regional training as “exciting and rewarding”. She says Port Pirie is the third regional centre to be added to the hair and beauty fold in the last 12 months.
“Most students wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity, if TAFE SA didn't put training facilities in place in the regions,” Lisa said.
Hard work coupled with school and industry relationships led Lisa to establish programs at Murray Bridge and Berri Campus in 2014. The classes have proved popular and more are scheduled for 2016.
With skills shortages in hairdressing and the Department of Education and Child Development looking to TAFE SA to deliver courses in hairdressing, there is a bright future for hair and beauty training in the region.
