TAFE SA Student named Enrolled Nurse of the Year 2015

Jefferey ShelleyTAFE SA distance education graduate, Jeffery Shelley has taken out the prestigious title of ACT Enrolled Nurse of 2015.  Presented on Thursday 7th May at the ACT Midwifery and Nursing Awards.  

This award celebrates the outstanding contributions made by ACT Nurses and Midwifes in both the public and private sector and for those who have demonstrated exceptional practice, professionalism and engagement with the ACT community throughout the year.

Jeffrey completed his whole study via distance education.  When asked why he chose TAFE SA over local training providers Jeffery said “It was mainly due to TAFE SA’s reputation, the structure of the course and the quality of the training modules they provided” 

“At all times TAFE SA provided me with an accessible flexible learning environment. Through the mentoring, guidance and role modelling the lecturers have provided has contributed to shape the nurse I am today, I am extremely grateful to TAFE SA and the lecturers”. Jeffery said.

Jeffery has been employed in his role as Manager Operations Residential at an ACT Aged Care facility for the last 18 months whilst completing his Advanced Diploma of Enrolled Nursing online. 

Glenda Whiting, Principal Lecturer – Health said Jeffery was working in a management position and the Advanced Diploma of Nursing allowed him to gain recognition and study advanced skills and knowledge in  his area of practice.  “It made my day to find out that Jeffery had won the award. He was a disciplined student who worked hard. The course delivered online can be difficult for students but by keeping in contact and discussing assessments requirements helped keep Jeffery on track. I am proud to have contributed to his success”.
